Instagr/am/bient

Instagr/am/bient is a project hosted by Disquiet. 25 ambient musicians created original sonic postcards in response to one another's Instagram photos. The results are online today, and are really quite beautiful. My assigned photo (above) was taken by J Butler, and my accompanying piece is Dead Wood - Warming. I've only been using Instagram for the past few months, but can be found @blotchcreek

Napalm Death in Weymouth

This Thursday, 15th December, I'll be playing in Witch Cultsupporting the legends that are Napalm Death at Weymouth Pavilion. Surreal times. My excitement levels are sky high for this one. Kick it.

Witch Cult

Thanks to those that made it down to see Witch Cult play in Bournemouth last weekend, we had a blast. This time I provided processed feedback, contact mic mouth noise and weird high frequency oscillations. I enjoy playing in this band a lot.

Witch Cult at Sound Circus!

This Friday I'll be making noise in Witch Cult at Sound Circus in Bournemouth, Dorset. For those who don't live in the area, this is the town's metal club. This is where the Disturbed fans go, and the PVC clad underaged. I never thought I'd walk in the place again, let alone play there! Hey ho, it's a funny old world. After playing in Bumbles nightclub anything is possible I guess. Anyway, should be a very amusing night. I'm on noise duties alongside me old pal and power electronics enthusiast Content Nullity. Also playing are killer dudes The Nepalese Temple Ball, plus Strangle Wank and Moral Panic. Entertainment guaranteed.

Witch Cult

Earlier this month I played a couple of shows with Witch Cult. There's some footage above from the first, which was a house show in Bournemouth. The weekend after there was another powerviolence/noise episode at The Dorchester pub in Southampton. Making noise with these guys was a total pleasure. Check them out, debut record released by Holy Roar on Halloween.

DEADWITCH

Tomorrow night will see some DEADWITCH action! I'll be teaming up with the Witch Cult dudes to make some vicious noise at a house show in Bournemouth, Dorset. Also playing are Let It Die from Northampton. The last house show there was a blast, so really looking forward to this!

In other news, the picnic plate 7" sold out earlier this week. Big thanks to those who ordered, hope you enjoy!

Dead Wood - 'Ruined Shrine' CDR is collection of lo-fi noise jams recorded in Wareham Forest, Dorset this summer. Due for release later on the We're Gonna Get Fucking Drunk Tonight Boys label.

And finally, I'm about to embark on a very different music project. Yes music! More on that soon.

Picnic Plate 7"

Dead Wood / Phantom Heron Seas - 'Sunshine Daily Commercial' picnic plate 7" is out now on Dirty DemosA lo-fi number for sure, with the sound recorded in my shed through an old practice amp, then lathe cut onto picnic plates, not vinyl. Thin flexible blue picnic plates, cut to 7” size. These have some hiss and surface noise, but that’s all part of the ride. Each was handmade in Olympia USA, and individually tested to make sure it plays correctly. Please note this is one sided and there is no digital download code, it’s intended to sound like a record made from a plate! This is limited to just 26 copies, and around half have gone already. Quick!

No Context live at St. Aldhelm's Chapel

Above is some footage recorded last Saturday afternoon when I went for a jam with No Context at St Aldhelm's Chapel on the South Coast of Dorset. The outcome was an hour of improvised electronics mixed with natural sounds on the day including tourist visitors and swallows inside the chapel. No Context on this occasion was myself, Adrian Newton, Allan Upton and Arthur Newton.

In the evening I played a noise set a house show in Bournemouth, along with hardcore bands Ed WoodLucky Ones Die First and Witch Cult. Cheers to everyone that made it down, and a super big thanks to the awesome Georgia for putting on this show at her house. Fun times!

In other news, some of my forest jams recorded this summer will be released on the We're gonna get fucking drunk tonight boys label, run by Mr Andrew Perry. And the lathe picnic plate 7" with Phantom Heron Seas will be out on my own label Dirty Demos probably towards the end of September.

Dead Wood / Phantom Heron Seas

A video I recently made to accompany a jam by Phantom Heron Seas and myself. The video was filmed and edited on my phone, and the audio was recorded in my shed! We did a whole bunch of recording this summer, and have a small edition record out soon on Dirty Demos

Project Fukushima!

The FUKUSHIMA! event in Dorset last week was great fun! Matthew Shaw and myself performed an hour long improvised jam using various instruments, effects and electronics. A download of the recording is available for free or name your price donation to Project Fukushima!

FUKUSHIMA!

Tomorrow FUKUSHIMA! music event is taking place simultaneously all over the world. In support of this, Matthew Shaw and myself will be performing an improvised collaboration at The Nine Stones Of Winterborne Abbas, Dorset. The evening will bring a study in ArcheoSonics, using the genius loci of this ancient site and the energy contained here to send a positive sonic message to Fukushima. The event is free entry and starts at 7:30pm. Later a recording of the performance will be available online, with any funds donated to Project Fukushima!

Houschka

A few weeks ago I played a Houschka night at The Blue Boar pub in Poole, Dorset. These alternative shows have been running for a little while now, and this one was curated by Jack Chuter. I played a solo set comprising of improvised lo-fi guitar slew, mouth noise and junk. Plus at the end of the night I also took part in the Vacuus Collective jam with Jack Chuter, Allan Upton and Simon Patton. There's a beer filtered video of that set above! Thanks to Jack and Neil for organising the show.

Outdoor summer jams

w/ Phantom Heron Seas

w/ C!!S!!W!!S!!

I've been without a computer for a while, hence the lack of posts here lately. During this digital-free break I took off to the forest at weekends to jam with a tiny battery amp. The weather has been nice and it's too hot at home, so jamming outdoors made perfect sense. Mostly contact mic feedback screech, voice, an old junk guitar I found, a bag of pedals and sometimes a violin. I also did various outdoor collaborations with friends too. Some recordings from these summer sessions will be made available later in the year.

No Context - Making Angles From Wind

From 2007-2009 I participated in electronic improv ensemble No Context. On a summers evening in 2008 we played a gig on Poole Quay, Dorset as part of the Inside Out Festival. A recording of the performance has just been released on CDR by Triple Bath in Greece, titled Making Angles From Wind. This brings back some great memories for me.

Dead Wood - Folute

The nice folk at Bang The Bore have set up a forum on their website, and one of the participating projects initiated there is 'Twenty/Twenty'. The idea being 20 individuals make 20 copies of their own music in a format of their choosing. They then swap their music with the other 19 people on the list, so everyone is in receipt of a copy of each of the limited editions, includig their own. The deadline is tomorrow, which coincides with the next Bang The Bore event, John Butcher at the Medieval Castle Vault in Southampton, Hampshire. Some of us will be trading in person at the show, although most are being exchanged through the mail.

I recorded my contribution yesterday, an 18 minute minimal textural drone piece. After being jinxed with equipment failure lately, this was no exception, and took me the whole day and night to finish. Today I made 20 copies on 3" CDR and fixed up the packaging which includes stickered cases, plain white jigsaws and white velvet drawstring bags. I think the packaging suits the sound well, I'm happy with how these have turned out.

House show

My first Dead Wood live outing of the year will be taking place on 12th March, at a house show in Bournemouth, Dorset. In celebration of my friend Tommuel's 21st Birthday, he's having 8 bands/solo acts perform at his place. A huge line up of noise, drone, power electronics, stoner metal and powerviolence. I'll be kicking off the show with a short harsh noise set. Sure to be a crazy night!

New I Before E

I Before E is the only electronica project I'm involved in thesdays. It's a collaboration with Nick Davidson from Bolton, in which we create clunky breaks and sound sculptures. I released a limited edition Lathe 7" in December, and hot on the heels is Claim, released this week on Kayfabe Friends. The 6 track CDR is out now, featuring a cover design I recently put together. It's limited to 25 copies, plus a download version is available too.

Halfway

Furthering my recent interest in minimal moving picture work, this year I've decided to have a go at creating some footage myself. Here is my very first attempt, a piece to accompany a new jam I recorded titled Halfway.
